3rd Annual Ladies Morning Tea

The 3rd Annual Ladies Morning Tea was a huge success.

115 ladies attended this event and very generously helped raise money towards a research lab at the Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Center, Melbourne (2015).

Thank-you to all the ladies that attended, to all those who so generously donated items for the raffles, silent auction, door prizes, guessing game and food and to all the volunteers who helped out on the day, we really couldn't do without you. Thank you for your continued dedication and support of The Isabella and Marcus Fund.

To the very hard working LMT Team - Jo, Linda, Marolyn, Tania, Sandra, Feral and Hayley. We love the fun and laughter you bring to this event every year, for all the hours you spend collecting donations and raising awareness for the charity. You are true friends.

We’re getting pretty good at this ladies!

Melbourne Marathon (3rd annual)
Sunday, October 14th, 2012
Team 'Isabella and Marcus Fund'

The Isabella and Marcus Fund’s inaugural fundraiser was the Melbourne Marathon in 2010, when we quickly assembled a team of 61 and discovered how much fun it was to be part of this event. This event has since become a staple in the IMF calendar and in the following year our team grew to over 100. This year we doubled in size to 220 participants and were the 4th biggest team in the event. We are so grateful to the support provided by every member of the team and we thank the participants that also contributed to the fundraising effort by being sponsored for their efforts.

October 14th was a glorious spring day in Melbourne. Clear skies and cool weather greeted the early runners in the 10 km, ½ marathon and marathon events in what were perfect conditions for running. The familiarity of the many IMF t-shirts glanced during the runs was inspiring and a true bonding experience. This year the events finished within the MCG after a break in 2011 and running within the stadium towards the finishing line was a memorable experience.

We provided a marquee for the first time, which served as a meeting point for groups of runners prior to their event and for everyone to come together to compare performances and experiences afterwards.

This year our team became international. Maria Tzatzaris put on the t-shirt and ran in the 10 km event in the Munich Marathon, also held on October 14th. Thank-you Maria and to her family who so generously donated to the Fund.

We’d like to express our gratitude to the volunteers who are so important to running this event. Thank-you to, Effie and                 Josie and Milly, and Linda Loxton who photographed the event.

See you again next year.

First Annual Dinner Dance
La Baracca Club
Saturday 2nd July

It was fun fun fun as 180+ guests danced the night away at the La Baracca Italian Club, Heatherton.

The event was generously organized by the President Mr Vinicio Lui and the Committee of the club. A special thankyou to Fernando Romei (Marcus' Nonno) for introducing the work of the fund to La Baracca Club and all those who so very kindly volunteered their services and donated items to the raffle. All proceeds from the evening went to the Isabella and Marcus Fund.

Mid Year Ball
Mornington Race Club, Victoria
Saturday 2nd June

A long term supporter of the Isabella and Marcus Fund, CrossFIt PTZone, celebrated their 2nd year in business with a Ball held at the Mornington Race Club. Sonia De Rose and Chris Santas magnanimously offered this occasion to raise money for the Fund. The night began on a serious note with a background presentation about the Fund and the plight of children afflicted with DIPG and then the festivities began. We thank the revellers for their interest in the work of the charity and for the generosity that was demonstrated on the night, which was truly heartfelt. Over $6000 was raised.

We are indebted to Nina Ivanovich for supply of many fundraising items for silent auction. Thank-you to the organising team of Sonia & Claudia De Rose and Chris Santas. We’d like to make a special mention of James Wierzbowski and Dylan Sorensenfor volunteering to shave their beautiful locks of hair and raising $1000 between them.

Moreover, we’ve had a great response from PTZone members to join the Isabella and Marcus Fund team in the Melbourne Marathon Festival, October 14th. We’re looking forward to seeing you all again.

Kids Dream Day
Launch - Thomas Mitchell Primary School
Friday May 8th

On the 8th of May “Kids Dream Day” was launched by the Charity’s Patron, the Hon Martin Dixon, Minister for Education, Victoria, at Thomas Mitchell Primary School. This location was poignant as this was Isabella’s school, where she went to learn, play and dream of her future…
Kids Dream Day is a day when children can live out their aspirations and let their imaginations run free about what they would like to be when they grow up. But it is more than just a fundraising campaign. It seeks to raise awareness of this little known cancer and importantly, it empowers children to be a part of an eventual cure. We have observed that children want to be involved, the older kids wished to be informed and collectively, they want to help children who are unlucky enough to develop this devastating disease. Their ingenuity was on show from rock guitarists to nurses and ballerina’s, etc in clever and subtle interpretations or otherwise bold and emphatic expression.
The Minister was introduced to the assembly by the school captains and he proceeded to ask the children what they would like to be when they grow up. There was a show of hands for teachers, doctors and scientists, but alas no future politicians were in the assembly!
The launch was also attended by Chris Dixon, Luke Donnellan, the local member for Narre Warren North in the Victorian Parliament and Ross Bevege, the Regional Network Director for Southern region.
We thank the Principal John Hurley and community of Thomas Mitchell Primary School for hosting this event and for their support in the previous two years. And a big thank-you to the children, you are the future.

Kids Dream Day, Flinders Christian College: We also express our appreciation to Flinders Christian College, Carrum Downs, for kindly holding their first Kid Dream Day and raising $800 for the IMF.

Thank you to our wonderful supporter Ugo Torcasio for introducing the work of the fund to the staff and school community.  A very generous school community.

2nd Annual Golf Day

Friday April 12th

The second annual Isabella and Marcus Fund golf tournament was hosted by the Long Island Country Club in Frankston, Victoria. Friday the 13th was a lucky day and the 17 teams were greeted with glorious sunshine and gentle breezes. The popular Ambrose format was again played and with ideal conditions and an immaculately presented course 7 teams returned to the clubhouse with net scores below 60.

Our special guest and newest supporter of the Fund, Andrew Gaze, was on hand to present the prizes (courtesy of Glenn Beckett) to the day’s winners in the function room of the stately clubhouse:

We thank David Smith, the General Manager of Long Island Country Club for enthusiastically supporting this event. Thank-you to all this year’s participants for taking a day off work (we know it's not easy!) and participate in raising funds for research that will one day benefit children that are afflicted with the incurable brainstem tumour known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). We welcome everyone back again next year and encourage other golfers to form a team and join in the fun.

Pitman Classics Family Car Day Show
Saturday March 4th

Leaden skies gave way to pockets of blue and finally brilliant sunshine as cars from a bygone era rolled into Governor Rd, Mordialloc. About 100 cars, vying for 6 prizes were assembled within Pitman Classics’ showroom and outside on the lawns and carpark. Spectators were witness to beautiful restorations encompassing a golden age in automotive engineering. Meanwhile the children were entertained with jumping castles, face painting/crazy hair, fairly floss, yummy “treats” and all manner of food and drinks.  Successful silent auction and lots of raffles, many thanks to the raffle team for their incredible selling efforts on the day.

This event is a staple in the Isabella and Marcus fund calendar and this year saw the event double in size. ‘Fletch’ from Channel 44’s Classic Resto’s was back for a second year to film another show - look out for it in April. We were treated to Tommy and Joan Dysart, who are synonymous with the classic car scene by virtue of their Goggo mobile and Shannon’s adverts.

Our sincere gratitude goes out to the classic car community for their support, the “red carpet showroom” car owners for graciously sharing their cars, the organising committee of Steven, Alana, Paul, Kristal, Maria and Warren for their months of hard work, our most professional MC Robert Paoli, the many volunteers who made the running of the day seamless and, of course, all the families and classic car enthusiasts who attended and made this a day to remember.

Thank you also to all the kind individuals and businesses who generously donated to this event:

Unique Cars Magazine , Gasoline Magazine, Cruzin Magazine, Autobarn Mentone, Autobarn Cranbourne, Bakers Delight Mountain Gate, McCain Foods Australia, Chef’s Pantry, Kenny Fury, Charles Bakery, Aussie Farmers Direct, Melbourne Tigers Basketball Club, Clearwater Car Wash, Elements Café, Crystal Poultry, Fuji Xerox, Kmart Keysborough, Brumby’s Bakery Beaumaris, RACV Southland, Just Cars Magazine, Stewarts Plaster Products, JB Hi Fi Brighton, 3AW Mornings with Neil Mitchell, Harvey Norman Springvale, Armorall Car Products, Collingwood Football Club, North Melbourne Football Club and Basketball Australia.
